During the week of February 17th we will be focusing on cause and effect relationships. We are looking at how one event can be the cause of MULTIPLE events. (Think of the OLD DIRECTV commercials for a real-life example of this) The students will have a quiz on Friday the 20th to check in on their understanding of cause and effect relationships.
We will also be working on recalling text and comparing characters from multiple texts in literacy, focusing the end of the week on the obstacles people and characters overcome. You can help with this by asking your student to tell you about their nightly reading, whether that be from Compass Learning or from their reading of choice.
In writing we will be continuing our work on our persuasive essays. At this point, your students have picked a topic and begun to come up with valid evidence to support their opinion. They will dive into forming a strong persuasive essay out of their planning materials this week while taking into account what the opposing view may say and how to counter argue those ideas.
In social studies we getting closer to becoming the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!! We will be focusing on how and why tensions began to grow between the colonies and Great Britain due to new laws being passed. The students have made some text-to-self connections with this already and will continue to build on the current metaphors used to introduce the chapter.
